On the eve of Merdeka, one dog parent’s loss became dinner for dogs who needed it.

That night, we joined Auntie Eileen from My Pets Haven. She’s 70, and she has been going out night after night, for years, to feed the strays in her community.

We covered more than 10 locations in two hours and that was with three of us. Most nights, she does this all on her own.

I kept thinking, surely it’s okay to skip a night once in a while. But when we asked her, she simply said she gets tired too and heartbroken if she doesn’t feed them.

I still don’t know where she finds that dedication.

They may not have homes of their own, but they are still part of our streets, our communities, and the home we all share.

Truth is, Licks & Bites started as a passion project. All of us juggling full-time jobs, building this on the side because we believed in it, not because we had spare time to burn.

That meant fixing ordering and delivery properly took longer than we wanted. But we didn’t want to slap a website on top of the same slow process just to say we had one. We wanted to be ready before going all in.
